Aloita Resort is set on Pulau Simakakang, a tiny private island in the Mentawai chain, just off the coast of West Sumatra. Created and founded by a family, the resort has a warm atmosphere ready to give travellers an ocean-focused space to temporarily call home.

Bungalows have private decks, four-poster beds with mosquito nets, and outdoor bathrooms. Interiors are simple but comfortable, with polished wood, clean lines, and views straight out to the reef.
At the heart of the property is a laid-back restaurant and bar, serving Indonesian and Western dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. The open-air lounge is where guests gather to share meals, plan surf sessions, or just relax with a book.
Aloita is known for its proximity to some of the best waves in the Mentawais. Daily surf boat trips make accessing iconic breaks—like Telescopes, Scarecrows, and Seven Palms—easy and efficient. The on-site dive center also offers guided dives to nearby coral gardens and deeper reefs.
The resort’s focus is on the ocean, but there’s still plenty to do on land. Explore the jungle interior of the island, book a massage in the spa, or snorkel the vibrant house reef. Aloita balances raw nature with quiet comfort—ideal for those looking to disconnect.
Aliota’s mission is to curate a hotel, through exemplary service and sustainable design, where guests can remove themselves from the mayhem of modern life. They look to be a haven for those longing for peace, quiet, and the ocean.

The Mentawais offer some of the most consistent and high-quality surf in the world. Aloita’s location near Sipora puts you close to iconic breaks like Telescopes (long, fast left), Scarecrows (hollow left), and Seven Palms (fun right-hander). Most waves are reef breaks and suit intermediate to advanced surfers. Conditions are best from March to October, with light morning winds and clean swell. Crowds vary by spot, but Aloita’s private boat access keeps it flexible and uncrowded.
The resort’s beachfront restaurant serves a mix of Indonesian and international dishes using local ingredients. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included. Meals are relaxed and communal, with an open-air setting and ocean views. The bar offers fresh juices, cocktails, and cold beers—perfect post-surf. Dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.
Fly into Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Padang. From there, Aloita arranges speedboat transfers (approximately 3–4 hours). The resort is on a private island just off Sipora in the Mentawais. Weather is tropical and humid, with dry season surf from March to October. While not close to a town, guests can still participate in different activities close to the resort. Aloita sits on miles of empty beaches, providing guests with a private place to enjoy the ocean. For guests looking for more activity, they can join the hotel's surf school, or take a guided walk into the jungle. Other activities include diving, snorkeling, and cultural visits to nearby villages.
