Hôtel Garage Biarritz is a contemporary 27-room hotel near the Basque coast. Located just minutes from the Grande Plage and Biarritz’s historic center, the hotel mixes industrial heritage with curated design and a light, playful atmosphere.

Starting as a car garage in the early 1910s, Hôtel Garage Biarritz’s name pays homage to its predecessor, Garage Regina, where cars frequented and small planes were housed. The garage closed in the 1980s, and it was not until 2018 that it was used again, this time to exhibit the works of 20 street artists. Finally, in 2020, the renovation for Hôtel Garage Biarritz began, converting the iconic building into a hotel of luscious luxury and deep history.

Through raw textures, warm tones, and graphics accents, each room follows a retro-modern aesthetic. Room options range from cozy doubles to family-friendly suites with bunk beds. All include AC, smart TVs, and thoughtful touches like custom lighting and vintage-inspired furniture. Some rooms have private terraces or garden views.

The outdoor pool is heated and surrounded by loungers and lush greenery, offering a calm escape in the heart of town. The on-site wellness space includes a sauna and massage treatments.

The hotel’s restaurant, open in high season, serves a simple Mediterranean-style menu paired with local wines and cocktails. The bar stays open throughout the day and into the evening, offering coffee, drinks, and small bites in the leafy courtyard. Breakfast is served daily, and there’s also a vending area with drinks and snacks for late-night cravings.

The hotel is located next to the Golf de Biarritz Le Phare, a famous 18-hole golf course, making the hotel a home for surfers, golfers, and travelers alike.

Embracing Biarritz’s surfing history, which started in 1956, quickly making it a crucial part of Europe's surf culture, the hotel provides guests with resources to surf schools and directions and tips for local surf breaks.

Families are welcome, and there’s an easygoing atmosphere that suits couples and solo travelers too. The staff are friendly and well-informed, happy to suggest local restaurants, surf spots, and day trips. The hotel offers private parking, EV charging, and secure bike storage.

Overall, Hôtel Garage Biarritz is a casual, well-designed base for exploring the Basque coast. Whether you're here to surf, eat, or unwind, it’s a smart and easy place to stay.

THE SURF

Biarritz is one of Europe’s most iconic surf cities. Surf is consistent year-round, with the best conditions from September to November. Grande Plage, just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, offers beach breaks suitable for all levels. Côte des Basques, 10 minutes away, has mellow longboard waves and dramatic views. For more punch, head 15 minutes north to Anglet’s La Barre or Les Cavaliers—reef-influenced beach breaks best for intermediate to advanced surfers. Morning offshore winds are common, and summer crowds can be heavy, especially in peak season.

THE FOOD

The Garage’s restaurant serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes with a focus on simplicity and freshness. Guests can enjoy grilled vegetables, seasonal fish, and light pastas. The bar offers local wines, apéritifs, and cocktails in a laid-back, garden-style setting. Breakfast is available daily, and the space often hosts weekend brunches and pop-ups. Around the hotel, Biarritz offers bistros, seafood joints, and pintxo bars—many just a short stroll away.

THE DESTINATION
