Originally a 1980s mansion, Marqí is a reimagined rural estate in Portugal’s Sintra Mountains. With eight stylish accommodations, a saltwater pool, and sprawling views, it’s built for unwinding. Guests can enjoy self-catering kitchens, yoga spaces, and curated privacy in a design-focused hideaway.

Each room, uniquely styled, offers guests a private place to enjoy their stay. Marqí is perfect for the conscious traveller who looks for a personal and design-centered experience.
Marqí off-grid, but far from rough. The interiors of the rooms blend polished concrete, light wood, and neutral tones. Rooms feature walk-in closets, private terraces, and minibars. Every unit is equipped with Wi-Fi, heating, and modern comforts.
The focus is on self-sufficiency and serenity. Guests cook their own meals, lounge by the saltwater pool, or practice yoga on the open-air deck. There’s no formal restaurant, but you can order locally sourced breakfast baskets or stock up on groceries from the honesty bar or nearby markets.
Shared areas are minimal but thoughtful: a central kitchen and dining space for groups, a stocked honesty bar with local wine and snacks, and plenty of seating zones that look out over the mountains.
Marqí attracts couples, solo travelers, and creatives looking to disconnect. There’s no TV, no schedule, and no background noise beyond the wind and birds. Days are shaped around forest walks, long swims, naps, and books. At night, it’s campfires and starry skies.
Though remote, Marqí is easy to reach from Lisbon or Porto, both around a 2 to 2.5-hour drive away. The road climbs gradually into the mountains before ending at a gravel path and wooden gate—quietly signaling you’ve arrived somewhere meant for rest.
With no front desk or room service, Marqí is understated and independent. The hotel, designed with purpose, gives guests the freedom to comfortably live at their own pace.

Marqí isn’t on the coast, but surfers can day-trip west to Praia da Tocha (1.5 hrs), a mellow beach break good for all levels. Slightly further, Figueira da Foz offers punchier waves and long rights at Cabedelo. Surf is best from autumn through spring, with early mornings offering clean conditions. These spots remain relatively uncrowded compared to Portugal’s more famous breaks.
There’s no restaurant, but each unit has a private kitchen stocked with essentials. Guests can pre-order local produce boxes or purchase basics from the honesty pantry. Breakfast baskets are available by request. For dining out, Lousã town (15 mins by car) offers traditional Portuguese restaurants, bakeries, and cafes.
Fly into Lisbon or Porto, then drive 2–2.5 hours east to Marqí. The hotel sits just outside the village of Cerdeira in the Lousã mountains. The area is known for its hiking trails, schist villages, wild swimming spots, and quiet roads for cycling. The surrounding area offers more if you want it. Walk 15 minutes along the coastline to Praia Grande to explore other beaches and restaurants. Hikers can explore the nearby schist villages and mountain trails. Wild swimming spots dot the nearby rivers, and scenic backroads make for ideal cycling.
