The Palm is a design-forward boutique hotel in Ahangama. With ten suites, four villas, a restaurant, and a pool, it's perfect for surfers, creatives, and slow travelers.

The hotel's cabanas are spread out across a grassy plot, with plenty of space and natural shade. Each one is built using concrete, polished plaster, and wood. Interiors are pared back—king beds, soft linens, terrazzo sinks, and simple lighting. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in the green outside, while private patios offer a quiet space to read, nap, or enjoy a drink. It’s clean-lined and considered, but never stiff.
The main pavilion is the heart of the hotel. Open-air and high-roofed, it houses the restaurant, bar, and a series of communal spaces designed for lingering. Guests can spend the day moving between the pool and the shaded lounge areas, ordering juices, coffee, or cocktails as they go.
Food is a big part of the experience here. The menu is short and seasonal, with a focus on local produce and fresh flavors. Breakfast includes tropical fruits, hoppers, and strong coffee. Lunch and dinner lean toward healthy bowls, grilled seafood, and house-made curries. A small but sharp drinks list includes cocktails, fresh juices, and natural wines.
What sets The Palm apart is its sense of space and ease. There’s WiFi if you need it, but the energy leans offline. Days start slowly—maybe yoga on the lawn or a morning surf nearby. Afternoons are for lounging, reading, or exploring the coastline. Evenings are relaxed and social, with music, shared tables, and the occasional firepit session.
The beach is a 10-minute drive away, with tuk-tuks easy to arrange. Surfboards can be rented nearby, and lessons are available. For something slower, guests can head to Galle Fort, visit cinnamon plantations, or take a boat through Koggala Lake.
The Palm is best suited to adults and couples, but solo travelers also feel at home. It’s a place where time stretches, noise fades, and everything slows to a comfortable rhythm.

Ahangama is a reliable surf spot with a mix of reef and beach breaks. Best from November to April, the area sees clean waves in the morning before onshore winds pick up. Popular breaks nearby include Devil’s Rock (5 mins, mellow left-hand reef), Marshmallows (10 mins, soft point break for intermediates), and Kabalana (10 mins, A-frame beach break for all levels). The crowd varies but is generally moderate—busier in peak season.
The Palm’s open-air restaurant serves all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a focus on fresh, seasonal produce. Guests can enjoy tropical fruits, vibrant salads, and locally sourced seafood. The vibe is laid-back but stylish, with communal tables, smooth playlists, and a breezy aesthetic. Signature cocktails and a curated natural wine list round out the offering.
