The Nook is a four-room boutique retreat near Dondra’s coast. Nestled in a quiet, green pocket, it combines contemporary design with intimate scale. A calm base with a pool, tropical garden, and easy access to southern Sri Lanka’s surf spots.

The layout is compact but well considered. Clean lines, polished concrete, and natural wood set the tone, while greenery spills into every corner. Floor-to-ceiling windows, rainfall showers, and locally made furniture make the rooms feel modern but grounded. Each space opens out onto private terraces or shared gardens, creating an indoor-outdoor feel that suits the warm climate.
The pool is slim, shaded, and central—perfect for cooling off after the beach. A small communal lounge and dining area round out the shared spaces. With only a few guests at any time, the atmosphere remains quiet and relaxed.
Australian owners built The Nook as a reflection of their travel tastes: design-focused and influenced by Sri Lankan tradition. They built The Nook with hopes guest would fall in love with Sri Lanka the way they did. They’re often around, available to recommend surf spots, local food, or places to explore, but always let guests set the pace.
Though tucked into a quiet residential lane, The Nook is less than a 10-minute drive from the beaches of Dondra, Hiriketiya, and Polhena. Surfboards and tuk-tuks are easily arranged, and the coastline here offers a mix of beginner-friendly and more advanced waves. Yoga classes, cliff walks, and historic temples are also nearby.
The Nook appeals most to couples and solo travelers looking for something calm, comfortable, and small-scale. Strong Wi-Fi, peaceful work corners, and tropical surroundings also make it a good spot for longer stays or creative retreats.
Breakfast is included and changes daily. Guests can enjoy tropical fruit, curd and treacle, eggs, and local specialties. While The Nook doesn’t serve lunch or dinner, nearby spots in Dondra and Hiriketiya offer plenty of dining options, from beach cafés to seafood shacks and stylish bars.
It’s a place for slow mornings, beach afternoons, and quiet evenings—a pocket of ease on Sri Lanka’s southern edge.
